The University of Worcester Language Centre teaches English for academic purposes at various levels, to both home and international students.
The delivery of sessions utilises, lectures, seminars, practical workshops, directed learning, e learning and tutorials. The successful applicant(s) would be invited to take part in the full range of teaching activities.
Successful applicants will be placed on a register of sessional lecturers at the University of Worcester and will be notified when suitable vacancies arise, which may be immediate.
In the supporting statement of your application form please give evidence to demonstrate how you meet the essential criteria listed in the person specification; you are advised to address each item on the person specification in turn and give specific examples of activities you have undertaken.
Short listed candidates will be required to give a 15 minute teaching session to the interview panel, who will role play students, on an area of English academic referencing, suitable for a group of students on a pre-university course, whose IELTS level in English is around 5.0.
NB. If you are successful at interview you will be invited to join a pool of sessional lecturers and we will contact you if suitable work becomes available. We are not able to guarantee employment as it will be subject to student numbers. The number of hours available might only be a few hours per week up to a maximum of around 20, within a short 200-400 hour course over 10 weeks. - Main duties
The precise duties will depend on the nature of the work required, which may include teaching all or part of a module, providing one-to-one learning support for students outside of timetabled sessions, and/or marking of student work. On-going support will be given where required, but applicants are expected to be proactive in developing relevant skills when required. This may require you to do one or more of the following:
1. To work with the Language Centre team in pursuit of delivering a high quality experience to all students enrolled on programmes in the Language Centre.
2. To teach content and skills via lectures, workshops, practical session and any other relevant activities.
3. To prepare material for teaching when required.
4. To help administer modules including setting and grading assessments.
5. To be available for tutorial support to students at specified times.
6. To ensure regular contact with relevant English co-ordinator and the Head of the LC, and to keep them informed of progress through the semester.
7. To engage in the evaluation and development of modules for which the lecturer has responsibility, and to collaborate with colleagues in the continuous review of taught programmes.

*Take steps to ensure and enhance personal health, safety and well being and that of other staff and students.

Please provide evidence of how you meet each of the essential criteria.
1. An honours degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, together with a formal qualification for the teaching of English as a foreign language, such as a Cambridge CELTA.
2. Evidence of excellent teaching in HE or evidence of an ability to teach well at this level.
3. Ability to communicate confidently and clearly with a wide range of people, both orally and in writing.
4. Experience of working on own initiative and working successfully as part of a team.
5. Ability to relate to students with diverse backgrounds, ages and experience.
1. A higher degree (or near to completion) in a related area.
2. A Cambridge DELTA or equivalent.
3. Competence in the use of ICT for teaching and administrative purposes including experience of e-learning using a Virtual Learning Environment.
4. To have experience of teaching a wide range of international students, at different levels of English competency.
5. Experience of course planning and administration.
