Employability

Your time at university is an important investment in your future career potential and your ability to compete for the most desirable graduate jobs.

University of Worcester graduates are among the most employable in the UK - 19 out of 20 of our students are in work or further study within six months of graduation. The combination of teaching methods and opportunities for skills development can really help you to develop the qualities that today’s graduate employers seek.

Earn as you Learn (EAYL) in Sports at Worcester

The Institute of Sport and Exercise Science (ISES) actively promote EAYL by:

  • Ensuring all first-year students identify and develop skills through their ISES course that will assist them in gaining employment
  • Working with appropriate companies and organisations to identify and advertise opportunities for students to gain employment alongside their studies
  • Formally recognising a variety of achievements, including work experience and extra-curricular activities and helping students to promote this experience to employers
  • Helping find a balance between work-load and studies, ensuring that your ability to produce good quality academic work is not affected.

ISES Mission

It is recognised that the various programmes within the ISES strive to produce the 'complete sports graduate'. The ISES students will be equipped with the skills, attributes and knowledge to be able to manage and be effective within their own career and make a significant contribution to society. They will be innovative and enterprising; able to see, create, and manage opportunities in varied settings, with the capability to adapt to changes and to engage in a challenging and changing world, and have the potential to be future leaders in their field. These graduates will be self-aware, self-reliant, resilient, and be able to take responsibility for their own learning and development, plan and make critically informed decisions.

Careers in sport and exercise science

Many of our graduates enter employment directly connected to sport and exercise science. Others aspire to careers in research and therefore go on to study for a masters degree, or a PhD, in specialist fields.

An expanding sector

With more people playing sport and engaging in physical activity, there are many new job opportunities within the sector. Our courses are specifically designed to prepare you for a range of careers in sports development, sports administration, sports policy development or in health and fitness.

We are a Corporate Member of the Institute of Sport and Recreation Management, and receive monthly updates of job opportunities. Keep an eye on the Sports Hall notice boards for excellent opportunities for work experience and future careers.
