The Worcester MSC Marketing programme is a specialised and highly contemporary course in which you will study the very latest trends and developments in product and services marketing. You will explore shifting market and consumer behaviours; the hyper-competitive and turbulent nature of marketplaces; corporate reputation management, and how to effectively manage ever-changing technology via strategies for the physical place and the virtual space. What qualifications will you need?
Either a first or second-class Honours Degree or equivalent.

Teaching and Assessment
How will you be taught?
The course is designed to be student-centred and features a significant amount of independent research and study, with the support of experienced and well-qualified tutors. Assessments will focus on research projects based on issues affecting your own organisation and your role within it.
The Research module is followed by a supervised 10,000 word Dissertation, which allows you to draw upon your knowledge of marketing through applied research, focused upon organisation or sector-specific environments.
Typically lectures in Worcester Business School are two or three hours long. During this time, you will experience a range of learning activities intended to stimulate you and enable you to learn effectively.
Lectures usually begin with a classroom lesson that lasts around 45 minutes, introducing the underpinning concepts of a topic. You will be expected to participate here – by offering your opinion, by using an Electronic Voting System or by interrupting when you wish to challenge what the lecturer is suggesting.
After the introductory lecture you will often be split into small seminar groups during which you will work individually or with two or three other students on case studies which will enable you to explore the subject in greater depth. We believe that collaborative learning with your fellow students is very important.
Between lectures you will carry out further study - we adopt an ‘open door’ policy and you will be encouraged to seek the help of lecturers. Most class materials will uploaded to Blackboard (our VLE) before sessions and these materials can be downloaded at University or from anywhere with an internet connection. Many modules have set up on-line discussion facilities to enable you to collaborate with other students between sessions.

Dr Tim Sellick
Tim began the development of his sales and marketing expertise as the Director of a Direct Marketing agency where he worked for over a decade. He then moved into academia after completing his Post Graduate Certificate in Education (Post Compulsory Education) delivering programmes for Birmingham City University for Undergraduate, Post Graduate, and for professional participants. Tim then then joined Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford in 2009 to work in Executive Education.
Since 2011 Tim has worked at Worcester Business School where he teaches Marketing Communications, Marketing Strategy, and Sales Management.
Tim is a multi-award winning case writer and has authored a winning case in the EFMD’s Excellence in Practice Awards twice. Tim is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (and a Chartered Marketer), and a Fellow of the Higher Education Association Academy.
Dr Lynn Nichol
Lynn is Head of Leadership, Management and HR Subject Group, a Principal Lecturer in HR and course leader for the Doctorate in Business Administration at Worcester Business School. She is a Chartered Fellow of Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academic. She has supervised two PhDs, one DBA and one MRes to completion.
Dr Mike Bagshaw
Mike is an Organisational Psychologist and Management and Leadership Development professional with over 20 years of consultancy experience in the UK and abroad. He has worked with a wide range of organisations in both the private and public sector, helping them to overcome the more difficult people management, development and leadership issues.
An experienced one-to-one coach and mentor working with people who represent the critical intellectual capital for the future. Mike is also an experienced conference speaker both in the UK and abroad. He is a member of the British Psychological Society.
Dr Robin Bell
Robin is a Senior Lecturer in Enterprise and your Study Abroad Tutor. His research looks at SME development and the role of entrepreneurship in business growth. He has acted as a peer reviewer for articles in the field of entrepreneurship and international business. Recently he has spent time lecturing in China, France and Germany. He previously worked for Orange PCS and Next PLC, was elected to serve in public office (2007-2012) and continues to act as a governor for a special educational needs school in the South West of England. In his spare time he is a passionate (Bristol) rugby fan and is a RFU qualified referee.
Dr Richard Nicholls
Richard’s main teaching and research interests focus on the management and marketing of services. His specialist areas include interaction between service customers; providing services for older consumers; and customer misbehaviour.
Richard has extensive international experience and has taught at a number of European universities, including the European Business School in Frankfurt, Poznan University of Economics and Warsaw University.
Dr Rebecca Jones
Rebecca is an active researcher investigating the impact of workplace coaching. She is a certified coach and is actively engaged in providing coaching to professionals in industry.
Rebecca has experience of teaching on a variety of undergraduate, postgraduate and professional courses and her particular teaching and research expertise lie in personality, training, coaching, performance management, feedback and leadership development.
Dr Catharine Ross
Catharine teaches subjects related to people management and ethics in the Business School. Catharine has a particular interest in teaching and research concerning diversity in the workplace. She is currently involved in research on trade unions; men in female-dominated occupations; and management learning.
Dr Holly Andrews
Holly Andrews has been a lecturer with Worcester Business School since 2009. As the employability champion for the business school, Holly runs the work placements scheme and manages the core undergraduate personal development modules.
Where could it take you?
This course will equip students who are either embarking upon a career in business, or are already established in their role, with both the generic skills required to successfully operate in a management role, and the more detailed expertise demanded from those working within the marketing area
Subject to permission by UK Visa and Immigration on application of your visa you can choose to take a 6 month internship, extending the 12 month Masters course to 18 months. Whilst an internship of your choice is not guaranteed the Business School will support you to be successful in finding a suitable internship to gain important experience within the UK workforce.
Students choosing to undertake the optional internship will undertake a placements module which will assist you in preparation for interviews, CV writing, understanding assessment centres etc. Thereafter, you will be able to apply to spend your internship at an organisation of your choice, anywhere in the UK. Examples of employers who have previously offered placements include Aston Villa Football Club, Bosch Thermotechnology Ltd, Enterprise rent-a-car, e-on, Groupon, Hays, IBM, Intel, Land Rover Experience, Lidl, Marks and Spencer, Microsoft, NHS, Price Waterhouse Cooper, Smith & Williamson, The House of Commons, Textlocal, Waitrose and many others.

I really enjoyed my time at the University of Worcester. The academic staff are very well versed in their respective fields and they really motivated me and gave me all the support I needed. During my postgraduate year, I spent most of my time and effort in learning and whilst I have my own way of learning, I am honored to share my study tips with others:
• Get a dedicated space, chair, table, lighting and environment.
• Stick to a routine, efficient study schedule.
• Find a good place to study, best time to study, study in short blocks.
• Before beginning studying, take a few minutes to summarize a few objectives, gather what you will need, and think of a general strategy of accomplishment.
• Incentives and Rewards: Create an incentive or reward for successfully completing a task, such as calling a friend, a food treat, shopping, etc.
Managing reading assignments
• Read texts that are most important or relevant for a course first, particularly when professor mentions a passage or when a reading is to be covered in class. Prioritize readings by determining what will be reviewed in discussion sections and by knowing test dates and due dates for papers. Make enough time to complete reading assignments by scheduling more time than you think you need.
• Make margin notes and highlight important points within readings. When it is time to study for tests, focus on the notes and highlighted passages.
• Be an active reader - in a separate notebook, write down ideas and questions that arise while you are reading. This can help you to think critically about what you have read, and will serve as a guide to study for tests, write papers, and ask questions in class.
• Identify sequences of events in readings and make lists to put events in order. Gain a broader understanding of what you read by visualizing characters. Be attentive to cause-effect relationships that are central to knowing why events happen (improves understanding).
• Pay attention: Concentrating on what your professor is saying will assist you in hearing every nuance of the presentation and help you to understand more difficult concepts as they are explained. Focusing on understanding the lecture rather than writing down every word that is spoken will help you remember more from class.
• Minimize distractions: You may prefer to sit toward the front of the room. Sitting up straight can also make a difference. It facilitates paying attention and allows you to glance down easily at your notes.
• Look for clues: pay attention to how your professor conveys information while lecturing. Looking for signals (such as tone of voice, hand gestures, and body language), to enhance understanding of the professor's words.

Bursaries and scholarships
To launch the Worcester Business School's brand new portfolio of Masters courses, we are delighted to offer each qualifying, full-time international student (non EU) a celebratory bursary of £2,500 off the published course fees.
In addition international students (non EU) are eligible to apply for scholarships of up to £3,000.
The Government may provide a loan of up to £10,000 per student for postgraduate Masters study. It will be at your own discretion whether the loan is used towards fees, maintenance or other costs.
